Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza

The Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza serves as a launching point for visitors entering downtown Minneapolis and as an important flex space for convention center users. The renovation of the existing 3.1 acre green roof plaza creates more usable and rentable space for events and greatly expands the sites sustainable initiatives. The project transformed a mown turf landscape into a smaller usable green surrounded by meadow and native garden installations. Graceful pathways provide access into and through the gardens for convention center visitors, staff and the general public. The smaller central lawn accommodates large concerts and public events. Expanding the use of the space, a deck was installed to facilitate receptions and provide visitor break-out spaces. Visibility into the plaza was improved on all edges for increased safety and monitoring. Public engagement included the neighboring multifamily buildings which have embraced the space as a public park.
