Damon Farber Associates worked with the City of Shakopee on a large scale public works facility in 2003. The multi-use facility included office space as well as public works maintenance and associated parking. Built in 2004 the facility greatly improved the cities public works division and improved the cities overall identity among local residents. DFA designed a unique gabion retaining wall that doubled as a low seat wall, along with a plaza space that reclaimed harvested fieldstone boulders found on-site during construction. The plaza paving and layout visually tie with column spacing and architectural elements to unify the space with the architectural character, making site and building work together harmoniously. Earthen berms screened the utilitarian portions of the building along with heavy landscaping. A drop off circular drive was developed allowing local residents to swing in quickly and pay utility bills.
