National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers
Historic American Landscapes Survey

Milwaukee, WI

The National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers was established during the service of President Lincoln as one of the first federal level facilities dedicated to the care of veteran soldiers. A valuable example of the Picturesque Landscape Movement, the site was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2011. DF/ collaborated with a team of engineers, architects and historians to complete an Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) of the 150 acre campus. In addition, we consulted with the Wisconsin Veterans Administration medical campus leadership to plan for sensitive rehabilitation of existing historic buildings and new construction expansion into the campus to provide critical services for veterans.
