Excelsior Commons Master Plan

Damon Farber, in collaboration with MSR Design, was retained to develop a master plan for this much loved and historically important public park on Lake Minnetonka in the heart of Excelsior. Excelsior Commons Park has been a community destination since thee turn of the 19th century. It has been a beloved space for Excelsior residents as well as a regional destination for visitors to downtown Excelsior. Amenities and attractions have been added and subtracted over the years as the community’s recreation needs have evolved. This adhoc approach has resulted in a disjointed visual appearance. Damon Farber worked with a multi-disciplinary team to develop a comprehensive vision plan that would guide a public/private partnership effort to improve the park for the next generation. Improvements include an enhanced event lawn, new bandshell, community plaza /port area, improved path system, ecological improvements, waterfront boardwalks and enhanced community beach and picnic area.
