Cardiovascular and Cancer Research

The University of Minnesota’s Academic Health Center developed a vision for a new Biomedical Discovery District (BDD) and secured funding for the $292 million investment. The centerpiece of the District is the new Cardiovascular and Cancer Research Buildings showcasing a signature forecourt plaza. The front entrance is set back to embrace the plaza, and features a distinct egg shaped green space that separates the street from more intimate gathering spaces. Simple, elegantly detailed elements of planting areas, walls, lighting and furnishings create a welcoming atmosphere and offer places for gathering, dining, events or just sitting. A green roof provides stormwater benefits, an outdoor deck, a seating platform and collaborative outdoor space for staff and researchers.
