Shaw Point, Sand Island Cultural Landscape Study
Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, WI
COLLABORATION: Hess Roise and Company, Miller Dunwiddie Architecture, Archaeological Research Services
As part of a team of historians, architects and archaeologists, Damon Farber Associates participated in three days of field work and the development of a cultural landscape study for this historic island community; one of only two Apostle Islands with developed communities. During the research phase of the report, a pattern of varied cultural landscape typologies specific to the island inhabitants was developed to further highlight the significance of this place. Detailed analysis of the landscape, definition of character defining features, mapping and graphics are all combined to tell the story of this unique Lake Superior island community.
