Northrop Mall Historic Architectural Survey

LOCATION: Minneapolis, MN
CLIENT: University of Minnesota
COLLABORATION: Archaeological Research Services, Hess Roise and Company, Miller Dunwiddle Architecture

Damon Farber Associates worked with a team of historians, architects and archeologists to complete an inventory and assessment of the Northrop Mall Historic District. The survey provides a detailed analysis and inventory of the historic Mall designed by Cass Gilbert in the City Beautiful campus planning style. The Mall, originally developed in 1910 and fully completed in 1971, has a high degree of historic integrity. While the Northrop Mall Historic District was found to be eligible for the National Historic Register in 2006, this document provided the in-depth study and documentation of the Mall’s architectural and landscape contributing features relevant to this determination.
