Shakopee Public Utilities Center
LOCATION : Shakopee, MN
ARCHITECT : BKV Group
The multi-use facility included office space as well as public works maintenance and associated parking. DFA designed a unique gabion retaining wall that doubled as a low seat wall, along with a plaza space that reclaimed harvested fieldstone boulders found on-site during construction. The plaza paving and layout visually tie with column spacing and architectural elements to unify the space with the architectural character, making site and building work together harmoniously. Earthen berms screen the utilitarian portions of the building along with heavy landscaping. A drop off circular drive was developed allowing local residents to swing in quickly and pay utility bills.
