In the News!

March 7, 2017

The University of Minnesota’s Bee Lab was in the news this weekend on Grow with Kare 11 last Saturday. The news clip presents some of the research that happens inside the building, while also giving credit to the landscape around the research lab. “Outside the lab, the building will be surrounded by flowers that provide nectar and pollen, the food needed for bees, also a place for them to live” (Kare 11).

In the News!

February 9, 2017

The Maple Grove Central Park was recognized by Fox News this week, as the only outdoor refrigerated ice rink in the state! The new skating loop is an amazing winter attraction in the metro area. The warming house, designed by U + B Architects, is equipped with an ice skate rental area, concessions area for hot chocolate and snacks, and a fireplace to warm up after a fun afternoon skate. If the weather begins to warm up, the skating loop can remain open because of its refrigeration system. Go check it out!

The Front Page!

January 26, 2017

In 2015 Damon Farber completed development of a $15 million urban park intended to provide Maple Grove’s developing downtown civic, retail and residential core with a lush, energized green space that builds upon its extensive pedestrian trail system and chain of lakes. The project is attracting national press as an iconic regional outdoor destination, and provides 40 acres of passive and active recreational amenities. One of the most notable features is a highly customized play environment that was a true collaboration between Damon Farber and Landscape Structures Inc.  Landscape Structures featured the Maple Grove Central Park play area as the cover photograph in the 2017 annual catalog. Among many of Landscape Structures’ terrific projects, the playground at Maple Grove is intended for people of all ages to “play today!” We are very grateful for the relationship we have with Landscape Structures, the City of Maple Grove, and other contributors to this project!

Welcome Jodi, Kevin + Brian

December 28, 2016

Our team and skills are constantly growing at DF/. We’re very excited to welcome three new designers to our team. Jodi Refsland comes to us with a strong background in architecture, ecology, and landscape restoration and we are thrilled to have her on board. Kevin Henn joined us in September. We somehow convinced him to move to Minneapolis from sunny San Diego and he brings strong 3D rendering capabilities. Most recently, we welcomed Brian Doucette, who is expanding our program capabilities with experience in Revit. Brian has worked in the area as a landscape architect for nearly 8 years.

Take a Stroll through The Commons

July 27, 2016

The Commons is officially open! We jumped on the LRT last Thursday to join the festivities and play some frisbee with Mayor Betsy Hodges. Parks are exciting projects for landscape architects- we get to experience our hard work as the primary user as well as observe how a diverse group of people experience it over a long period of time. It brings the design process full circle. It was also great to look up from the construction management process (alongside design firm Hargreaves Associates) to take-in the big vision and some sunshine. The second block of The Commons is set to open next month.

Congrats + Welcome

May 31, 2016

welcome and congrats

We’re growing our team and skills here at DF! Congratulations to Lance Schuer on his recent promotion to Senior Associate. Lance is running multiple projects at the University of Minnesota, overseeing construction of a new trail at Shingle Creek, and expertly photographing many of our projects. We’re also pleased to announce the addition of two designers to our team. Andrew Montgomery is our newest associate landscape designer and he’s already jumped into at least five different projects. Just last week, we welcomed Chris Sticha, an MLA student who will be our summer intern.

Downtown East Commons Progress

May 26, 2016

Ryan Construction is hard at work building Downtown East Commons and we can’t wait to see it through to completion! The 4.2 acre park will be one of the largest open spaces in downtown as well as the largest park constructed in Minneapolis in over a decade. We’ve been working as the local design firm, alongside project lead and award-winning design firm Hargreaves Associates, providing extensive on-site construction oversight. The site is undergoing dramatic changes everyday as the construction crew progresses toward the grand opening on July 22.

Downtown East is bustling with activity as construction moves forward. With over 180 trees selected for the site from all over the Midwest, 2/3 have already been delivered! We are excited that the park will not only add recreational and green space to Minneapolis, but a continued thread of urban tree canopy.

Planting will commence next week!
